I am Natalya Van Plateringen, an award winning portrait photographer, specialising in newborn photography, based in the suburb of Wahroonga on Sydney's North Shore. I have a passion for turning little moments into beautiful memories.

​

My first experience with photography was capturing cloudy sunrises and sunsets on my parent’s film camera almost 20 years ago. I played with their camera when I could. During my school days, I loved disposable cameras and carried one everywhere.  Our wedding gift in 2007 was our first canon, purchased so we could document our travels and time together.

 

Fast-forward (just a few years!) to when I gave birth to my son. How amazing are those early newborn days? There were so many moments and details I wanted to capture to remember always. His little toes, his birthmarks, those tiny fingers, his amazing blue eyes, that baby soft skin, his bassinet, the hospital blanket, then his firsts, his growth, his parties and friends. Oh how I love newborns!! I was worried I would miss a moment, so wherever we went, so did my little compact camera! Those photos make me smile, cry, laugh, dream and reminisce.

I started to share my passion for freezing moments in time with my friends and family, capturing moments we were together doing everyday things, special events, birthday parties and milestones. And I treasure those images and loved sharing them for others to treasure too!

By the time my daughter arrived I had 3 compacts, my phone and a new big camera, that was it, I was hooked. I found a full-time hobby and turned it into my passion!

 

I wanted to develop and refine my skills so I started attending workshops, completing photography courses, reading and watching and loads of practise, practise, practise.  I began to see the world differently, the lighting, the colours and the potential for a photo wherever I looked. I'd look for little moments to capture that can sometimes pass us by unnoticed, I'd search for times that could be remembered in a single frame, there are so many, and I'd want to capture images that have feeling and meaning.

I loved creating memories, frozen moments in time so much that I now capture those moments for others, I capture  your memories so they last you for a lifetime.

I’ve received wonderful, positive feedback from those I’ve photographed and photographed for. I’ve had my photography featured in The Bump and I've worked with my local daycare centre to build their website with my photos used to showcase the centre. Most recently, I received 4 Bronze Awards for my entries into the RISE International Photography Awards. So proud to be an award winning sydney photographer.

Safety is a priority in all my sessions and more so when photographing your little ones. Your entrusting me with a new little one and that isn't taken lightly. I have completed a Newborn Safety Online Series and I am fully insured. I am also up to date with immunisations.
